Meeting March 24th / 2009

The club was treated to a presentation of Nature Photography In The Wilderness by Eleanor Kee Wellman, who has now inspired many of us to pursue her level of excellence.

Club members themselves showed some of their best work in the Open Competition, with Harry Arneill receiving the night’s top score.

Norma West was rewarded with a Honourary Life Membership due to her 51 consecutive years in the Chatham Camera Club during which she held various positions.

Meeting March 10/2009

Club members enjoyed another instructional night of Les’s Living Legends Lighting (Portraits), Carson’s Creative Close-Ups, Dave’s Delightful Demos in Photoshop, Tom’s Tremendous Tips, Paul’s Photo Printing and Editing in Elements plus Herman’s Helpful Highlights. These and other lessons will be held again on April 14th.

The ‘Outreach for Hunger’ project headed by Doug Woodman is now in its final print stage. Photos were donated by Chatham Camera Club with the generous help from the Trillium Foundation. Thanks to everybody who submitted images and congratulations to those whose pictures were selected.

Meeting February 24/2009

A big Thank You to Mike Blazek for putting together and presenting his show “Walk With Me, Asia” and give us a rare and candid look at the culture and people that Westerners very seldom get to see. His superb photography, married with the excellent editing thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Vadovic, was indeed a show ‘Tour de Force’. We are all looking forward to see more from them in the future.

In our ‘Hair’ competition, Jim Pollock got the top score with 23 points for his ‘Hair in the Soup’ rendering that gave everybody a good laugh. Images selected through voting for CAPA ‘Creative’ competition were submitted by Jim Pollock, Mike Blazek, Martha Gillier, Doug Woodman, Nelson Harrison and Carson Plant and CAPA ‘Nature’, Frank Vadovic, Paul Schmoldt, Patricia Kral, Nelson Harrison, Lorie Cooper and Margaret Manson.

Congratulations all.

Meeting February 10/2009

The club enjoyed one of its most successful and informative meetings to date as our members traded their photographic knowledge and ideas on a wide variety of subjects. The evening featured tutorials lead by Dave Noordhoff (Photoshop), Carson Plant (Tabletops), Paul Schmoldt (Printing), Tom Townsend (Photo Tips), Les McCracken (Portraits) and Jim Pollock (Custom White Balance).

These workshops will be repeated next month plus new ones. Please see the Meeting Schedule for more details.

Meeting January 27/2009

Thanks go out to Harry Arneill, Jim Pollock and Sheri Nydam for their excellent presentations on Harry’s Flowers, Jim’s Collection and Sheri’s visit to Washington DC. Everybody attending the meeting enjoyed them. Also Thanks to Carson Plant for his tips on Composition.

After several workshops this season, we have decided to change the format focusing on a more ‘hands-on’ approach. We will attempt to have the Monthly Main Meetings the 4th Tuesday every month geared towards presentations on travelogues, competition and the like scenarios with a more entertainment concept. At the work shops, we are going to set up several areas serving a smaller group of members at the time for printing, table tops, portrait photography, software use and photography advice etc. Be sure to bring Camera, Tripod and some object you might want to practice on. Please note that there will be some changes in the timing of submitting images to CCC and CAPA Competitions. Please see the Meeting Schedule for more details.

Meeting January 13 / 2009.

We had 39 members and 8 guests attending our first meeting in 2009. We judged 24 entries for Canadian Association for Photographic Art in ‘Gates’ category and 60 entries for our internal competition with the
theme ‘Abstracts’. Congratulations to the 6 top entrants, Doug, Carson, Les, Jim, Steve and our newest member Lorie, whose images will be sent to CAPA for national competition. A small tutorial on lenses and how to resize in the Adobe ‘Elements’ and the ‘FastStone’ program was also on hand.
