The club welcomed two new members and two guests to our fifth meeting of the 2011 / 2012 season.

President Dave had several reminders for us, including:

  • The Christmas Breakfast is to be held at The Chatham Breakfast House,
    525 Grand Ave East (the old Saxony Restaurant)
    on Saturday December 3rd at 9 AM.
  • We will hold a “swap meet” at our February 28th meeting, so bring in any photo equipment that you want to sell or trade.
  • We can still use some more pictures for the headers across our web pages. Crop your shot to 1000 px X 288 px and send them to Paul.

Jim Pollock used his “Fifteen Minutes Of Fame” to demonstrate a proposed competition or print category called “Song Title”. You can see it again on YouTube

Judging took place for the CAPA competition “Altered Reality”, with shots by Larry Kearns, Gavin Stuart, Paul Schmoldt, Jim Pollock, Les McCracken and Jason Wamboldt being chosen for submission.

In our monthly CCC photo competition, Tere Deslippe – 24pts & 22pts, Adam Harpula – 22pts and Angel Rublik – 22pts. took top marks among the Novice group for “Domesticated Flowers”

Jim Pollock – 24pts, Paul Schmoldt – 23pts, Patricia Kral – 23pts and Larry Kearns – 23pts, had the highest scoring shots in the Intermediate and Advanced group’s entries for “Rust”. Photos can be viewed by clicking on “Club Photos

Carson Plant’s In Your Element tutorial showed us how to adjust shadows and highlights in Photoshop Elements. You can review the method HERE

Dave Noordhoff kicked off the first in his series about Canon’s proprietary software for RAW file adjustments called DPP by explaining that the utility is included with a purchase of a Canon camera capable of shooting in RAW and how to install and update it. Future lessons will include how to use this amazing, free software.

Herman Giethoorn gave an informative workshop on close-up and macro photography, which included detailed information about:
Equipment – close up filters, extension tubes, extension bellows, macro lenses
Lighting – natural light,  ring flashes, indoor continuous lights, reflectors, light boxes
Backgrounds – poster board, glass, hand painted backgrounds

Our Featured Photographer is Diane Guay

Diane is a retired school teacher who enjoys walking, card making and helping others by volunteering at the CK Woman’s Centre and VON.
Photography is a new hobby that Diane is rapidly developing and her enthusiasm is reflected in her fine work, a sample of which can be seen on our  Photo In Focus page.

Ted Kloske of Henry’s Photo in Windsor gave a very informative presentation about lenses, how they work, what their numbers mean, and which are used for different applications. Ted was also gracious enough to answer several questions, which many of our members found extremely helpful. The CCC thanks Ted for sharing his time and his talents.

Chris Jorgensen was our first member to have his “Fifteen Minutes Of Fame” and presented a wonderful slideshow that gave CCC members a glimpse of what it’s like to shoot pictures at a rodeo. Chris’ excellent shots showed us just how entertaining and dangerous these events really are. Nice job Chris!

A Club competition for Beginners in the Open category was judged with Melanie Denis and Adam Harpula receiving top marks for their efforts.

Intermediate and Advanced members competed in the Domesticated Flowers category, with high scores being given to Jean DeBruyn, Harry Arneill, Carson Plant, Patricia Kral, Keith Blackwell, Fred Schaller, Laird VanderEnde and Jim Pollock.

October 11 / 2011

Our guest speaker, Don Martel, gave an extremely entertaining and informative lecture on Available Light Portraiture, followed by an enthusiastic Question and Answer period. It’s always a pleasure to have Don speak to the CCC and we look forward to his next appearance.

Les McCracken led a group discussion about some of the fine prints that our members brought in for display.

Vince Gagnier kicked off this season’s series on What’s In My Camera Bag where he talked about backpacks, belts, lenses, lens caps, extension tubes, filters, sensor cleaning swabs and memory card cases.

Gavin Stewart showed the club some of his recent pics in our What I Shoot segment. Excellent work Gavin!

At our first meeting of the 2011 – 2012 season, the club welcomed back many familiar faces as well as nine new ones.
Vice-President Vince Gagnier summarized the Club’s activities over the past summer, which included Walk-Abouts in Chatham, Wallaceburg and The Kral Farm, as well as our annual picnic, the CAPA Conference in London, photos of the Ontario Senior Games and a CAPA Judging Course in Sarnia.

Paul Schmoldt presented a wonderful slideshow from his 2010 trip to Southern Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland.

The club judged our entries for upcoming CAPA competitions, with many excellent shots being shown.

Paul presented a slide show which featured many of the creative shots caputured during our three Walk-Abouts.

Those in attendance were reminded not to miss the October 11th meeting which will feature pro photographer Don Martel’s workshop on Available Light Portraits.
