Our third and final walk-about of the summer was another successful evening of learning, sharing and friendship, with a good turnout of members searching the King St. West / Wellington St. West area for “Architectural Detail”, “Squares, Circles and Triangles” and “Photographers In Action.” To see some of our members shots:

Featured this month is Lois Kearns, an up-and-coming photographer who joined our club two years ago, mainly to better understand how to use her Sony camera. Our July walk-about was well attended and our members fanned out across downtown and the Tecumseh Park area to capture shots of Water, Vegetation and Outdoor Portraits. We will look at some of the results at a Fall meeting, but for now you can see a few samples:

June 15th 2010 – Walkabout

Our first summer Walkabout was a huge success with nearly half of the club’s membership gathering in Downtown Chatham. Breaking off into smaller groups, we roamed the area in search of “Cracks”, “Unusual Angles” and “Signs That Made A Statement”. We shared tips, techniques and our experience with each other before gathering at Coffee Culture to socialize. Thanks to Les McCracken and Dave Noordhoff for organizing and leading the event. Elections for Club officers for next season were held. The new executive list can be found on our Members page.

Members were reminded that starting in September, we will hold our meetings at the Evangel Community Church, 76 Sandys St, Chatham.

Some members who contributed photos for the Chatham Newcomers Portal were presented with a token of appreciation from the Municipality Of Chatham-Kent.

The Club reviewed our submissions and scores from the Weather competition.

Adam Harpula gave the club a short demonstration of his new Olympus E-PL1 camera.

Club members enjoyed a slideshow about Cuba, presented by Frank Vadovic and Kathy Davidson, which showed the spectacular tourist areas as well as scenes from everyday life.

Print manager Les McCracken critiqued several of our prints and explained a faux-HDR technique used by Paul Schmoldt to achieve a dynamic shot of the Disney castle.

Judging of our final competition category of the year, “Weather”, indicated that this was a very challenging category.

Carson Plant received a big round of applause for his slideshow that featured the beautiful scenery of Algonquin Park in autumn
